In 1997 when my parents, Allen and Nancy Smith, announced they had purchased a 1790’s colonial home in Enfield, NH in order to open a bed and breakfast- all I could think was, “New Hampshire where? “ Over time, of infrequent visits (mostly in the winter- not my season) this place became home. Then, 8 years ago, after my father passed away, I moved up here to “help out”. Priding myself as a rolling stone, I never intended to stay. So when faced with the option to leave, no one was more surprised than I was to discover that this place actually was home- that I was invested in this community, I loved this land, and I wanted to make it grow.
In 2019, we restored our 1700’s carriage house. Lifting the structure almost 4 feet in the air, we poured a concrete base. Using reclaimed wood and hand notched beams, the carriage house has a warm, rustic, and intimate feel.
Leaning into my experience as the culinary instructor for the Hanover Co-op, my connections with local farmers from running farmer’s markets, 25+ years of restaurant experience, and my desire to create a welcoming community space, the idea for {las vive} was born.
So, we have been collecting chairs and tables and working hard to create a warm and inviting space for people to gather. I can’t wait to open those barn doors and welcome you inside.
